Football Recap: Barbe Falls to Airline in First Game of Season + How To Watch

Barbe had to hit the road for their first game and it wasn't the result they were hoping for. They had to suffer through a 56-27 loss at the hands of the Airline Vikings. While losing is never fun, the Buccaneers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Louisiana football rankings (they are ranked 93rd, while the Vikings are ranked 22nd).

Barbe's loss on Friday came despite strong showings from Jelandon Gray and Landon Kirklin. Gray threw for 166 yards and a pair of TDs, while Kirklin rushed for 98 yards and one score.

Leading Airline to victory were Chase Williams and Dj Allen. Williams rushed for 114 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only five carries, while Allen rushed for 173 yards and three scores on only ten carries. Those 173 rushing yards gave Allen a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Matthew Moore, who rushed for 89 yards and one TD on only six carries.

Barbe wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 70-65 defeat against Lake Charles College Prep on the 11th. As for Airline, they have also already played their next matchup, a 50-18 victory against Benton on the 12th.
