Charlotte Catholic is a perfect 7-0 against Independence since March of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Charlotte Catholic Cougars are taking a road trip to take on the Independence Patriots at 6:00 p.m. Charlotte Catholic is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season.
Charlotte Catholic proved they can win big on Tuesday (they won by 16) and on Wednesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Charlotte Christian 6-5. Winning may never get old, but the Cougars sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.
Jon Fijalkowski was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024. Matt McKnight also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Meanwhile, Independence lost 22-12 to Pine Lake Prep on Wednesday. The Patriots have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Alfred Seaman was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Chipper Hamrick, who scored two runs while going 1-for-2.
Even though they lost, Independence always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Charlotte Catholic's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Independence, their loss dropped their record down to 2-4.
Independence's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Friday. Charlotte Catholic has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.2 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Independence, though, as they've been averaging only 3.8 strikeouts. Will Charlotte Catholic keep running through batters, or will Independence buck the trend?
Everything went Charlotte Catholic's way against Independence in their previous matchup on Tuesday, as Charlotte Catholic made off with a 16-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Charlotte Catholic since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
