Volleyball Recap: Big Walnut Golden Eagles vs. Worthington Kilbourne Wolves

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Big Walnut can now relate to. They took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Worthington Kilbourne Wolves on Thursday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Golden Eagles of the 3-2 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture on October 1st.

While Big Walnut had to settle for second, they sure made a game of it, scoring at least 19 points in every set they played. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-19, 14-25, 25-19, 25-23.

Despite the defeat, Big Walnut saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Peyton Gordon had 15 digs.

Even though they lost, Big Walnut was lethal from the service line and finished the game with ten aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least eight aces in three consecutive contests.

Leading Worthington Kilbourne to victory were Audra Bailey and Danielle Carnes. Bailey had ten digs and three aces, while Carnes had ten digs. Bailey is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had ten or more in the last seven games she's played.

Big Walnut's loss dropped their record down to 15-10. As for Worthington Kilbourne, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 16-8.

Big Walnut does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Worthington Kilbourne, they will challenge Loveland at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Loveland will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something Worthington Kilbourne surely won't give up without a fight.
