Basketball Recap: Ames Proves Higher State Rank Is No Mistake

Ames won the last time they faced Waterloo East and things went their way on Friday too. The Ames Little Cyclones strolled past the Waterloo East Trojans with points to spare, taking the game 54-37. Given the Little Cyclones' advantage in MaxPreps' Iowa basketball rankings (they are ranked 106th, while the Trojans are ranked 235th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Ames now has a winning record of 8-7. As for Waterloo East, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-9.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Ames will challenge Mason City at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Waterloo East, they will face off against Marshalltown at 6:15 p.m. on January 31st.
