Softball Recap: Montwood Beats San Elizario for Their Seventh Straight Win

Montwood had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10 runs) and they went ahead and made it seven on Friday. They blew past the San Elizario Eagles 12-1. The result was nothing new for the Rams, who have now won nine matchups by eight runs or more so far this season.

Verlynne Alvarado tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run while striking out ten over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Montwood let Mia Telles and Jaeda Quinones run wild. Telles went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base, while Quinones went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. That stolen base was Telles' first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Soph Sandoval, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two doubles and two RBI.

Montwood was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .519. They are a perfect 10-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Montwood's win bumped their record up to 14-5. As for San Elizario, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-14-1.

Montwood didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 17-2 victory against Bel Air on the 28th. As for San Elizario, they have also already played their next game, a 14-9 loss against Coronado on the 28th.
