Baseball Recap: Port Charlotte Comes Up Short

Port Charlotte managed to slip by Island Coast the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. Port Charlotte lost 10-2 to Island Coast on Friday. Surprisingly, this marked the fourth straight game that the away team has come away the victor.

Reed Backstrom was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two doubles and one RBI.

Port Charlotte has also traveled a rocky road recently, having lost eight of their last nine games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-12 record this season. The win made it two in a row for Island Coast and bumps their season record up to 15-5.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Port Charlotte will head out to face off against Cypress Lake at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Cypress Lake has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.06 runs per game on average), something Port Charlotte will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Island Coast, they will head out on the road to take on North Fort Myers at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
