Volleyball Recap: Austyn Benhoff's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Breese Central over Mascoutah

Breese Central was the 2-1 winner over Mascoutah when they last played one another back in August of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Cougars fell just short of the Indians by a score of 2-1 on Thursday. While the Cougars didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Indians 25-14 in the first set.

Breese Central actually scored more points across those three sets (75-68), but sadly they still had to settle for second. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 14-25, 25-23, 29-27.

Breese Central's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Austyn Benhoff, who had 18 assists and nine digs. The team also got some help courtesy of Adalyn Morris, who had 13 digs and one assist.

Breese Central's loss dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Mascoutah, their win was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 2-0.

Breese Central wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 2-1 victory against Nashville on the 2nd. As for Mascoutah, they will look to take advantage of their home court for the first time this season as they take on Staunton at 6:15 p.m. on Thursday.
