Baseball Game Preview: Richland Rangers vs. Pelahatchie Chiefs

The Richland Rangers will face off against the Pelahatchie Chiefs at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Richland will aim to continue their four-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last.

Having struggled with six defeats in a row dating back to last season, Richland turned things around against Raymond on Friday. They never let Raymond get on the board and left with a 10-0 victory. Richland's hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Tucker Evans made a big impact no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out nine over six innings pitched. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in April of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Bryce Shows, who scored three runs and stole Two bases. while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Dylan Hudson, who scored two runs and stole Two bases.

Meanwhile, Pelahatchie lost 11-2 to Puckett on Friday. The Chiefs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Pelahatchie saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Javion Magee, who scored a run while going 1-for-3. Chase Parker also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

Pelahatchie's loss dropped their record down to 4-8. As for Richland, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-4.

Richland took their victory against Pelahatchie when the teams last played back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 12-5. Will Richland repeat their success, or does Pelahatchie have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
