Softball Recap: Sumner Spartans vs. Kamiak Knights

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Sumner had no problem doing just that on Friday. They won by a run and slipped past the Kamiak Knights 2-1. The victory was familiar territory for Sumner who now have three in a row.

Riley McGee made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over seven innings pitched. McGee has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive pitching appearances. McGee was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with a home run.

In other batting news, Olivia Alastra was excellent, going 1-for-3 with a home run.

Sumner's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-8. As for Kamiak, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 19-6.

Sumner does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Kamiak, they will head out on the road to face off against Puyallup at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Kamiak's pitching crew has only allowed 2.2 runs per game this season, so Puyallup's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
