Baseball Recap: Washington Takes a Loss

Wednesday just wasn't the day for Washington's offense. They lost 12-0 to the Atchison Phoenix on Wednesday. Having soared to a lofty ten runs in the game before, the Wildcats' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Washington saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Chris Reno, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base. Reno is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last six games he's played.

Washington's defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 7-1 and their overall record down to 8-11. As for Atchison, their victory was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-2.

Coming up, Washington will head out on the road to challenge Shawnee Mission West at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Atchison, they will take on Wyandotte at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Phoenix's pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bulldogs have averaged an impressive 10 runs per game this season.
