The Fair Haven Slaters will head out to face off against the Bellows Falls Terriers at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Fair Haven comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
Fair Haven lost 9-3 to Hartford on Thursday.
Fair Haven saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Chloe Marsden, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run. Another was Quinn Durfee, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last contest, Bellows Falls made sure to put some runs up on the board against Leland & Gray on Tuesday. The Terriers blew past the Rebels 12-4. That eight run margin sets a new team best for the Terriers this season.
Izzy Stoodley spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits and racked up 12 Ks.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Jaelyn Fletcher, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with six RBI, three runs, and one triple. The team also got some help courtesy of Cadence James, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Bellows Falls was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .394. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Bellows Falls' record now sits at 3-1. As for Fair Haven, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-4.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Fair Haven has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Bellows Falls struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.5 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Fair Haven might still be hurting after the 19-13 loss they got from Bellows Falls in their previous meeting last Tuesday. Can the Slaters avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
