Softball Game Preview: Reno Huskies vs. Spanish Springs Cougars

Reno hasn't had much luck against Spanish Springs recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Huskies will welcome the Cougars at 9:00 a.m. Reno has given up an average of 12.1 runs per game this season, but Saturday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Reno is headed into Saturday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 11th straight game on Thursday. They lost 16-0 to Galena.

Meanwhile, Spanish Springs faced Carson in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Cougars were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over the Senators. Considering the Cougars have won 11 games by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Spanish Springs got a great performance from Hannah Fitzpatrick as she struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts Fitzpatrick has posted since back in March.

At the plate, Spanish Springs let Joey Jacobs and Maddy Marshall run wild. Jacobs went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Marshall went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most RBI Jacobs has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Madison Rogers, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and two RBI.

Spanish Springs kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in eight consecutive matches.

Spanish Springs is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-7-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for Reno, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-24-1.
