Baseball Recap: Saint Francis Starts Season with Win Against Leigh

Saint Francis took care of business in their home opener (barely) on Tuesday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Leigh Longhorns 5-4. For the Lancers, this counts as revenge for the 7-3 victory the Longhorns walked away with the last time they faced one another back in February of 2024.

Landon Kim tossed a big game, striking out six batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off seven hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2024.

At the plate, Landon King and Tanner Wall did most of the damage at the plate: King went 1-for-4 with one home run, while Wall scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Jack Leeper, who scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-4.

Saint Francis always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .531. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Leigh only posted an OBP of .364.

Saint Francis didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 3-2 defeat against Los Altos on the 26th. As for Leigh, they will challenge Hillsdale at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
