Football Game Preview: New Hope Trojans vs. Saltillo Tigers

New Hope has gone a perfect 6-0 against Saltillo recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Trojans will face off against the Tigers at 7:00 p.m. Saltillo took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on New Hope, who comes in off a win.

The home team had won the previous three meetings between New Hope and Houston, and New Hope kept the tradition alive. The Trojans blew past the Hilltoppers 63-18 on Friday. The Trojans pushed the score to 56-10 by the end of the third, a deficit the Hilltoppers cut but never quite recovered from.

Jacob Jefferson was a one-man wrecking crew as he rushed for 227 yards and five TDs while picking up 8.1 yards per carry. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 124 rushing yards per game. Another player making a difference was Tyrekus Brooks, who rushed for 172 yards and three touchdowns on only eight carries.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: New Hope was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 399 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Saltillo ended up a good deal behind Shannon on Friday and lost 40-21. The Tigers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

The win got New Hope back to even at 2-2. As for Saltillo, they now have a losing record of 2-3.

New Hope took their victory against Saltillo when the teams last played back in November of 2022 by a conclusive 30-6 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Trojans since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
