Softball Recap: Freeport Wins Going Away Against Vernon

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Paxton, Freeport was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. They never let the Vernon Yellowjackets get on the board and left with a 17-0 victory. That looming 17-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Bulldogs yet this season.

Kaylee Carroll made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. Carroll was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kayla Stephens, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI, three doubles, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2024. Corissa Duggar was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Freeport was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .519. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

The win got Freeport back to even at 7-7. As for Vernon, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-12.

Coming up, Freeport will head out to square off against Bozeman at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bulldogs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bucks have averaged an impressive 8.5 runs per game this season. As for Vernon, they will be playing at home against Bay at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.
