Softball Game Preview: Cumby Trojans vs. Hawkins Hawks

For the second straight game, Cumby will face off against Hawkins. Cumby will square off against Hawkins at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Cumby is coming into the contest on a five-game losing streak.

Things were looking good for Cumby after they put the first points on the board on Tuesday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell 7-2 to Hawkins.

For Hawkins' part, Kalyn Ellison spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on three hits and racked up ten Ks. Ellison has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Londyn Wilson was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024. Taetum Smith was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one triple and one run.

Hawkins is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a massive bump to their 10-8-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. Cumby's loss dropped their record down to 2-10.
