Game recap: Bishop Kenny High School Football Team beats Clay

GREEN COVE SPRINGS, Fla. - Bishop Kenny (Jacksonville, Fla.) jumped out to an early lead against Clay (Green Cove Springs, Fla.) and never looked back on the way to a 36-22 victory on Saturday.

The Crusaders put up nine points in the opening frame. Bishop Kenny scored on a rushing touchdown and a safety.

BK was up 23-0 at the half after taking the lead on a rushing touchdown in the first quarter.

Both teams scored seven points in the third quarter, so the margin remained at 23 entering the fourth.

Jake Smith played well for the Blue Devils. The freshman quarterback threw one touchdown.



The Jacksonville school also won the meeting between the two teams last season, 56-35.

The defeat comes as a step back for Clay, which notched a 20-14 victory over Orange Park in its previous outing. The loss snapped Clay's 2-game winning streak.

Clay (2-5) will play a 5A District 3 game against Paxon next week, while Bishop Kenny (5-2) will take on Parker also in a 5A District 3 game.
