Rancho Cotate (Rohnert Park, Calif.) saw its 14-point lead dwindle to seven, but still managed to hang on and beat
Las Lomas (Walnut Creek, Calif.) 21-14 on Saturday.
The Cougars led 7-0 at halftime, but the Knights recaptured the lead on a touchdown with 8:00 left in the third. Rancho Cotate grabbed hold of the lead when it ran for a touchdown with 4:00 remaining in the third quarter, and never relinquished it.
RC expanded its lead to 14 points entering the fourth quarter. The Rohnert Park school scored two times in the third, including once on a touchdown run.
With the win the Cougars extended their winning streak to 11 games. Rancho Cotate defeated the Panthers 40-0 last week.
Jalon Luque stood out for RC in the win. The senior running back ran for one touchdown. He has now scored 22 touchdowns on the season.
Adam Wood made a difference for Las Lomas. The senior quarterback ran for one touchdown. He has now scored two touchdowns on the season.
The Cougars had given up an average of 7.7 points prior to the contest. LL's 14 points were above its season average of 8.3 per game.
The loss comes after Las Lomas defeated Washington 31-14 last week. The loss snapped the Walnut Creek school's 2-game winning streak.
Rancho Cotate (11-0) will play a playoff game against Las Lomas next week, while Las Lomas (5-7) will take on Rancho Cotate also in a playoff game.
