Football Game Preview: Matanzas Pirates vs. Mainland Buccaneers

Matanzas is preparing for their first district matchup of the season on Tuesday. They are taking a road trip to face off against the Mainland Buccaneers at 6:00 p.m. Neither Matanzas nor Mainland posted many points in their last games, so it might be the defenses that decide this one.

Matanzas took a 46-point loss the last time they faced off against Florida School for the Deaf & Blind, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. Matanzas skirted past Florida School for the Deaf & Blind 9-7. Winning may never get old, but the Pirates sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Meanwhile, Thursday just wasn't the day for Mainland's offense. They took a blow against Central on Thursday, falling 32-0. The defensive woes were uncharacteristic for the Buccaneers, who until this matchup were averaging 12.33 points allowed.

Mainland's defeat dropped their record down to 3-3. As for Matanzas, the win also got them back to even at 3-3.

Matanzas suffered a grim 30-6 defeat to Mainland in their previous meeting back in March of 2021. Can Matanzas avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
