Baseball Recap: Russell Victorious

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Russell walked away with it. They came out on top against the Blazer Tomcats by a score of 6-1 on Monday. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 5-2 two weeks ago.

Kyle Mokas was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Those 11 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one double. Russell is 11-3 when Mokas posts two or more runs, but 9-10 otherwise.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Elijah Hankins, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Russell's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 10-1 (and 10-12 when he doesn't).

Russell's victory bumped their record up to 20-13. As for Blazer, they moved to 16-20 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

As of now, neither Russell nor the Tomcats have any future games scheduled.
