Coolidge skates past McKinley Tech with ease

On Wednesday, the Coolidge Colts faced the McKinley Tech Trainers in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Coolidge breezed by McKinley Tech at home to the tune of 65-18. Coolidge's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Coolidge found their leader in underclassman Josslyn Derricott, who scored 18 points along with eight steals and seven rebounds. Derricott has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last seven times she's played. Another player making a difference was Jaylyn Derricott, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 rebounds.

When it comes to explaining why McKinley Tech lost, one person who can't be blamed is Quimiah Haywood. Despite the final result, she scored nine points.

Coolidge's win bumped their record up to 4-7. As for McKinley Tech, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-5.

Coolidge will look to defend their home court on Friday against Roosevelt at 5:30 p.m. Roosevelt is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 53.8 points per game. McKinley Tech on the road again on Friday and play against Parkside at 5:00 p.m. on January 5th. Parkside comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 24 points in their last eight games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse.
