Softball Recap: Westlake Wins Going Away Against Mays

Westlake won the last time they faced Mays and things went their way on Saturday too. The Lions put the hurt on the Raiders with a sharp 21-5 victory. Considering the Lions have won seven contests by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Elisa Riley made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over three innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off three hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in August. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, three RBI, and one triple.

In other batting news, Alana Barrett was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in September of 2024. Another player making a difference was Raina Gantt, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.

Westlake always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .818. Their OBP was a full 0 higher than the also-impressive .556 that Mays posted.

Westlake's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-4-1. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Mays, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-10.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Westlake will take on Carrollton at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Mays, they will square off against Creekside at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Raiders' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Seminoles have averaged an impressive 12.6 runs per game this season.
