The Slaton Tigers will head out to square off against the Muleshoe Mules at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Slaton is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.1 runs per game this season.
It was a proper cat-fight when Slaton challenged Idalou on Saturday. Slaton put the hurt on Idalou with a sharp 14-4 win. The Tigers haven't had any issues with the Wildcats recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
Allison Ortiz was a standout: she scored two runs and stole Three bases. while going 1-for-3. Another player making a difference was Zuri Martinez, who scored a run and stole Two bases. while going 1-for-3.
Slaton hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Muleshoe came tearing into Saturday's matchup with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12.3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 7-6 W against the Wildcats. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Mules have posted since April 27, 2024.
Addilene Blanco was excellent, scoring two runs while going 3-for-5. Melanie Martens was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two doubles.
Slaton pushed their record up to 11-7 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Muleshoe, their record now sits at 13-6.
Slaton's speedy runners might be the difference in Tuesday's game. Slaton has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Muleshoe, though, as they've been averaging only 1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Slaton continue to outrun the ball?
Slaton beat Muleshoe 7-3 in their previous matchup back in February of 2023. Will Slaton repeat their success, or does Muleshoe have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
