Football Recap: Dove Creek Takes a Loss

Dove Creek was the 50-26 winner over Norwood when they last played one another back in October of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Bulldogs were beaten by the Mavericks 60-30 on Friday. The Bulldogs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the loss, Dove Creek still got an impressive performance from Nicholas Aragon, who rushed for 164 yards and one score while picking up 7.8 yards per carry. Aragon's rushing production has been exceptional as that marked his fifth straight game with at least 127 rushing yards. Kycen Gritz made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.

Dove Creek didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The team can thank two different players for their defensive prowess: Aragon and Gritz, who each picked up one interception apiece. Gritz got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Dove Creek's loss dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Norwood, their win bumped their record up to 4-2.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Dove Creek will face off against rival Dolores at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. That contest will pit two of the most dominant backs against one another: Aragon and Michael Rantz. Meanwhile, Norwood is set to take on their familiar foe Sargent at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
