The Orestimba Warriors will face off against the Gustine Reds at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Orestimba will be hoping to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last.
Orestimba is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They blew past Stone Ridge Christian 12-6 on Tuesday.
Payton Marcotte made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Marcotte was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, Donovan Torres was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-1. Kevin Moreno was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.
Orestimba was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .455. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Gustine ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 9-7 victory over Modesto.
Like Orestimba, Gustine also got a great game from a two-way player: Jake Campbell. On the mound, he tossed 2.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Campbell has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
In other pitching news, Ben Travao looked comfortable as he tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off five hits.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Mike Saaranzin, who scored four runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Avery Ethridge, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Orestimba's win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 2-4. As for Gustine, the victory got them back to even at 3-3.
