Volleyball Recap: Center Grove Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Skylyr Merriman and Avery Bastein

After flying high against Bloomington North on Monday, Center Grove came back down to earth. The Trojans lost 3-0 to the Cathedral Fighting Irish on Tuesday. The defeat continues a trend for the Trojans in their meetings with the Fighting Irish: they've now lost eight in a row.

The final score came out to 25-18, 25-18, 25-14.

Avery Bastein and Skylyr Merriman certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. Bastein had seven digs and three aces, while Merriman had ten digs and one assist. Bastein has been hot recently, having posted two or more aces the last three times she's played.

Mia Stubbs went supernova For Cathedral., getting 35 assists and five digs. London Murray also deserves some recognition as she served her first ace of the season.

Center Grove's loss dropped their record down to 5-2. As for Cathedral, the win made it two in a row for them and also bumps their season record up to 5-2.

Looking ahead, Center Grove will be playing in front of their home fans against Plainfield at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. As for Cathedral, they will challenge Assumption at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday.
