Softball Game Preview: Quitman Panthers vs. Northeast Jones Tigers

For the second straight game, Quitman will face off against Northeast Jones. The Panthers will be playing in front of their home fans against the Tigers at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Quitman has given up an average of 11.5 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Quitman fell victim to Northeast Jones and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They lost 20-0 to the Tigers. The Panthers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

For Northeast Jones' part, Ty'Kerria Caballero was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Caballero was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while getting on base in two of her three plate appearances.

In other batting news, Northeast Jones got a massive performance out of Cheerae Jones, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. That's the most runs Jones has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Madison Evans, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.

Northeast Jones was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .625. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .303 or higher in eight consecutive matches.

Northeast Jones' win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-4-1. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for Quitman, their loss dropped their record down to 4-14.
