The Trinity Pioneers will venture away from home to face off against the Bishop Brady Giants at 4:45 p.m. on Wednesday.
Trinity couldn't beat Raymond on Tuesday even though they stacked six runs on them in the first inning. The Pioneers fell just short of the Rams by a score of 9-8. While the Pioneers didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Rams 6-2 in the first period.
Emily Flynn spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and four unearned) runs on 11 hits and racked up ten Ks.
At the plate, Trinity saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Josie Cecchetti, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, Bishop Brady had already won 11 in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.7 runs) and they went ahead and made it 12 on Monday. They walked away with an 8-3 win over the Mountaineers.
Payton Bryson made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Bishop Brady let Rowan Wood and Abby Tyrrell run wild. Wood went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run, while Tyrrell went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Tyrrell is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games she's played. Ella Blanchette also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
Bishop Brady pushed their record up to 13-2-1 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.2 runs on average over those games. As for Trinity, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-12 record this season.
Wednesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Trinity hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .313. However, it's not like Bishop Brady struggles in that department as they've averaged .386. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Trinity might still be hurting after the 15-2 defeat they got from Bishop Brady in their previous matchup back in May of 2019. Can the Pioneers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
