Softball Game Preview: Vacaville Bulldogs vs. Wood Wildcats

Vacaville is 9-1 against Wood since April of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Bulldogs will look to defend their home field against the Wildcats at 4:00 p.m. Vacaville is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.7 runs per game this season.

Vacaville will roll into the contest after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up two runs on Friday, then bounced right back against Clayton Valley Charter on Tuesday. The Bulldogs put the hurt on the Ugly Eagles with a sharp 28-20 win. Considering the Bulldogs have won five matches by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Makayla Morgan was incredible, going 6-for-7 with one home run, seven RBI, and four runs. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Hayden Kyne, who went 5-for-6 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI.

Vacaville hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They are 5-1 when they post two or more strikeouts.

Meanwhile, Wood fell victim to Pioneer and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They took a 3-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Patriots. The Wildcats have struggled against the Patriots recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost meeting.

Vacaville has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.7 runs over those games. As for Wood, their loss dropped their record down to 8-4.

Both Vacaville and Wood just can't seem to miss. The Bulldogs have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 11.5 hits per game. However, it's not like Wood struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.7 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Vacaville took their win against Wood in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 7-1 score. Will the Bulldogs repeat their success, or do the Wildcats have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
