Recap: Florence Gophers vs. San Tan Foothills Sabercats
The Florence Gophers proved they can win big last Friday (they won by 34) but on Monday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 67-64 win over San Tan Foothills. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Logan Stenson continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 13 points and 11 rebounds. He hasn't dropped below three steals for 11 straight games. Another player making a difference was Adrian Taufaasau, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds.
Jaylen Fulton and Dominic Monte certainly did their best on Monday to avoid the loss. Fulton scored 26 points, while Monte scored 19 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Fulton has scored all season. Julius Carlisle was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Florence's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-10. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.0 points per game. As for San Tan Foothills, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 12-13.
Florence will head out on the road to face off against Valley Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. One thing working in Valley Christian's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season. San Tan Foothills will be staying on the road on Wednesday to face off against Palo Verde at 7:00 p.m. on February 7th. San Tan Foothills has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
