Baseball Recap: Wasco Victorious

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Wasco had no problem doing just that on Saturday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Arvin Bears, sneaking past 2-1. This was payback for the Tigers, who suffered a 13-3 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Damian Santos spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on one hit and racked up 13 Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Zakery Mays, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles, one stolen base, and one run. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Santiago Zarate, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI.

Wasco's win bumped their record up to 16-8. As for Arvin, their loss dropped their record down to 17-9-1.

Looking ahead, Wasco will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against Golden West at 4:30 p.m. Arvin does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
