Volleyball Game Preview: Severance Silver Knights vs. Alameda Pirates

The Severance Silver Knights will take on the Alameda Pirates in a tournament on Saturday. Severance is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last 13 games.

Severance barely beat Mountain View the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Silver Knights put the hurt on the Mountain Lions with a sharp 3-0 win on Tuesday.

The match came down to the wire multiple times:two sets needed extra rallies to declare a winner. The match finished with set scores of 27-25, 25-22, 27-25.

Zeke Wawrzyniak and Matt Zenger were among the main playmakers for Severance as the former had 12 digs and three assists and the latter had 12 kills, ten digs, and two aces. Zenger has been hot for a while, having posted six or more kills the last 13 times he's played.

Meanwhile, Alameda came up short against D'Evelyn on Monday, falling 3-0. The Pirates haven't had much luck with the Jaguars recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.

Alameda took the loss but they managed to make steady progress, increasing their score in every set they played. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-6, 25-17, 25-18.

Severance pushed their record up to 17-6 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home. As for Alameda, their loss dropped their record down to 8-11.

Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Saturday's contest: Severance has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 6.4 aces per game.
