Basketball Recap: Rincon/University Comes Up Short

Rincon/University and Hamilton squared off in some playoff action on Thursday, but Rincon/University had to settle for second. They took a blow against the Hamilton Huskies, falling 70-42. While losing is never fun, the Rangers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 72nd, while the Huskies are ranked 13th).

Despite the loss, Rincon/University still got an impressive performance from Leila O'Dowd, who went 7-for-12 from beyond the arc on her way to 27 points and six boards. That was a full 64.3% of Rincon/University's points, marking the fourth time in a row O'Dowd has posted more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Daphne Safo, who earned three points in addition to seven rebounds and five blocks.

It was another big night for Sage Henry, who shot 50% from the field to rack up 23 points and four steals for Hamilton. The contest was Henry's third in a row with at least 18 points. Taylor Sipfle was another key player, going 7-for-12 en route to 14 points and seven boards.

Rincon/University's defeat dropped their record down to 20-9. As for Hamilton, they pushed their record up to 17-12 with the victory, which was their third straight at home.

Rincon/University does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Hamilton, they have already played their next matchup, a 63-54 win against Perry on the 1st.
