Basketball Game Preview: Discovery Canyon Thunder vs. Lutheran Lions

Discovery Canyon is 0-4 against Lutheran since January of 2023 but things could change on Friday. The Discovery Canyon Thunder are taking a road trip to challenge the Lutheran Lions at 7:00 p.m. Discovery Canyon is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last 12 games.

Last Wednesday, Discovery Canyon earned a 67-56 win over Air Academy. Given the Thunder's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 20th, while the Kadets are ranked 228th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Discovery Canyon to victory, but perhaps none more so than Aiden Hayler, who went 5 for 8 en route to 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Noah Eckels, who went 5 of 7 on his way to 16 points and five rebounds.

Meanwhile, Lutheran waltzed into their game on Wednesday with nine straight wins... but they left with ten. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 61-59 victory over the Bears.

Discovery Canyon pushed their record up to 12-1 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.0 points per game. As for Lutheran, their record now sits at 12-2.

Discovery Canyon was taken down by Lutheran 62-34 when the teams last played back in February of 2024. Can Discovery Canyon avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
