Recap: Downtown Doral Dolphins vs. Academy for Innovative Education Aviators
The Downtown Doral Dolphins fell on hard times earlier this season, but after back-to-back victories it seems like their luck might finally be changing. They snuck past Academy for Innovative Education with a 27-22 win on Thursday. That's another feather in the cap for Downtown Doral, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Downtown Doral found their leader in underclassman Isabella Osorno, who scored 11 points.
Several Aviators players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Alexa Garofalo, who scored six points along with six steals and five rebounds. Garofalo hasn't dropped below two steals for seven straight games. Another player making a difference was Samantha Ayerdis, who scored 11 points.
Downtown Doral's victory bumped their record up to 4-7. As for Academy for Innovative Education, they bumped their record down to 5-4 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Downtown Doral will face off against Reagan at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Reagan comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 22 points in their last 12 games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse. Academy for Innovative Education will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Somerset College Prepartory Academy South at 4:00 p.m. on January 25th.
