Preview: Fremont Tigers vs. Lincoln Northeast Rockets

The Fremont Tigers will head out on the road to face off against the Lincoln Northeast Rockets at 5:45 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Fremont focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Saturday.

Last Saturday, Fremont earned a 46-36 victory over Lincoln High. The win was just what Fremont needed coming off of a 65-27 defeat in their prior matchup.

Fremont's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jenna Mcclain led the charge by scoring 20 points along with 6 rebounds and 3 steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Matthea Dalton, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 16 rebounds.

Meanwhile, Lincoln Northeast struggled with threes on Saturday (Lincoln Southwest had 700% more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Lincoln Northeast took a 57-49 hit to the loss column at the hands of Lincoln Southwest. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Lincoln Northeast in their matchups with Lincoln Southwest: they've now lost five in a row.

The losing side was boosted by Doneelah Washington, who dropped a double-double on 27 points and 18 rebounds. She scored a full 55.1% of Lincoln Northeast's points, the second time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Serena Heeren was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with 8 rebounds and 4 blocks.

The losses dropped Fremont to 1-1 and Lincoln High to 0-2.

Everything came up roses for Fremont against Lincoln Northeast when the teams last played back in February of 2022 as the squad secured a 83-39 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Fremont since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
