Football Recap: Wood Comes Up Short

Wood lost against Vacaville back in November of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Wildcats had to suffer through a 49-20 loss at the hands of the Bulldogs. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 563rd, while the Bulldogs are ranked 200th).

Wood lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Tanner McCottrell, who threw for 203 yards and three TDs. Dj Seymour also helped with two scores in total.

Brendan Jackson was a one-man wrecking crew For Vacaville. as he threw for 268 yards and three touchdowns while completing 86.7% of his passes, and also rushed for 78 yards and a pair of TDs on only seven carries. That's the most passing touchdowns Jackson has posted since back in August. Conner Golden also helped out as he racked up 102 receiving yards.

Wood has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last seven contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-7 record this season. As for Vacaville, they pushed their record up to 8-2 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Wood and Vacaville are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. The Wildcats will face off against Woodland at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. That game will pit two of the most dominant wideouts against one another: Seymour and Cohen Dwyer. As for Vacaville, they will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Rio Americano at 7:00 p.m. on the 14th.
