Softball Game Preview: Lee County Yellow Jackets vs. Pinecrest Patriots

The Lee County Yellow Jackets will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on the Pinecrest Patriots at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

On Thursday, Lee County didn't have quite enough to beat Triton and fell 6-5. The Yellow Jackets haven't had much luck with the Hawks recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.

McKenzy Mcdougald made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one double. Kallie Byrd was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2.

Meanwhile, Pinecrest came up short against Southern Lee on Tuesday and fell 17-14. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Friday (12), the Patriots still had to take the loss.

Pinecrest got a massive performance out of Arianna Reddinger, who scored four runs while going 3-for-4. Those four runs gave Reddinger a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Emily Hatcher, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-5.

Even though they lost, Pinecrest was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .459. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .320 or higher in five consecutive games.

Lee County's defeat dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Pinecrest, their loss dropped their record down to 2-4.

Lee County beat Pinecrest 6-1 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Does Lee County have another victory up their sleeve, or will Pinecrest turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
