Basketball Game Preview: Saguaro Sabercats vs. Mesquite Wildcats

Saguaro hasn't had much luck against Mesquite recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Saguaro Sabercats will face off against the Mesquite Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. Saguaro has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.

Last Wednesday, Saguaro didn't have too much trouble with Marcos de Niza as they won 87-68.

Saguaro found their leader in freshman Bentley Elrod, who went 8 of 15 en route to 22 points. Those 22 points gave Elrod a new career-high. Joe Miller was another key player, going 5 for 8 on his way to 12 points.

Saguaro smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in four consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, Mesquite came up short against Cactus Shadows on Friday and fell 63-52.

Saguaro's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-6. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 85.8 points per game. As for Mesquite, they now have a losing record at 9-10.

Saguaro came up short against Mesquite when the teams last played on January 7th, falling 58-53. Can Saguaro avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
