The Ballard Bruins will head out on the road to face off against the Floyd Central Highlanders at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Ballard is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.4 runs per game this season.
While Ballard's win against Henry County wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Bruins' pitcher stepped up to hand the Wildcats a 2-0 shutout on Saturday. The Bruins haven't had any issues with the Wildcats recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.
The result came thanks to Emery Schuster's shutout, as she gave up just four hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Ballard's win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Payton Downey, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one double. Another was Myla Jones, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI.
Meanwhile, Floyd Central entered their tilt with Madison on Monday with nine consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with ten. They put the hurt on the Cubs with a sharp 10-0 victory. Considering the Highlanders have won 11 matchups by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
The team relied heavily on Elise Coleman, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. Addy Ware was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs and one RBI.
Floyd Central's win was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 20-4. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.1 runs on average over those games. As for Ballard, their record now sits at 18-11.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Ballard has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Floyd Central struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Ballard beat Floyd Central 5-2 when the teams last played back in May of 2023. Do the Bruins have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Highlanders turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
