Baseball Recap: Orange Grove Wins Going Away Against Taft

With a playoff win on the line, Orange Grove rose to the challenge on Friday. They blew past the Taft Greyhounds 14-1. That's the third time they've managed to beat them this season, with their most recent victory being a 15-0 win on Friday.

Daniel Martinez was a major factor no matter where he played. He pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off five hits. What's more, he posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March. He was even better at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. That home run was his first of the season.

In other batting news, Zach Starns was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Hughes Klatt, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

Orange Grove always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .594. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The win made it two in a row for Orange Grove and bumps their season record up to 16-10-1. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.5 runs over those games. As for Taft, they now have a losing record of 13-14-1.

As of now, neither Orange Grove nor the Greyhounds have any future games scheduled.
