Basketball Recap: Mayfair Takes a Loss

Mayfair has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They were dealt an 89-62 defeat at the hands of the La Mirada Matadores on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Monsoons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 126th, while the Matadores are ranked 13th).

Mayfair's loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 16-5. As for La Mirada, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 19-4.

Mayfair will challenge Camarillo at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Camarillo will roll in looking for their 19th straight win, something Mayfair surely won't give up without a fight. As for La Mirada, they will take on Gahr at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. La Mirada knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past eight matchups -- so hopefully Gahr likes a good challenge.
