Recap: Wagener-Salley War Eagles vs. Ridge Spring-Monetta Trojans
The Wagener-Salley War Eagles were the 52-40 winner over the Ridge Spring-Monetta Trojans when they last played one another back in February of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The New Year welcomed Wagener-Salley with a 69-24 whooping from Ridge Spring-Monetta on Friday. Wagener-Salley was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 35-14.
Taylah Leaphart was a one-man wrecking crew for Ridge Spring-Monetta as she scored 24 points along with nine rebounds and six steals. Leaphart hasn't dropped below two steals for six straight games. Another player making a difference was Bri Hendley, who scored 15 points.
Wagener-Salley's loss was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 2-8. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 16.2 points per game. As for Ridge Spring-Monetta, their victory bumped their record up to 6-9.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Wagener-Salley will square off against Hunter-Kinard-Tyler at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Hunter-Kinard-Tyler focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 31 on Friday. As for Ridge Spring-Monetta, they will head out on the road to face off against North at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. North is coming into the game on a five-game losing streak.
