Basketball Recap: East Gaston Comes Up Short

East Gaston saw some tournament action on Friday. They took a hard 50-36 fall against the Metrolina Christian Academy Warriors. While losing is never fun, East Gaston can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 615th, while Metrolina Christian Academy is ranked 236th).

Metrolina Christian Academy found their leader in freshman Malachi Wilson, who went 6 for 9 on his way to 18 points and six rebounds. Wilson is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played. Camden Reeder was another key player, putting up ten points and eight rebounds.

This is the second loss in a row for East Gaston and nudges their season record down to 1-9. As for Metrolina Christian Academy, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 6-6.

East Gaston will square off against Bessemer City at 7:30 p.m. on January 3, 2025. As for Metrolina Christian Academy, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against South Point at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. South Point has been dominant on offense recently, having racked up an incredible 194 points over their last three matchups.
