League recap: South Summit falls to upstart Layton Christian Academy

Layton Christian Academy scored a shocking upset when it eliminated South Summit, 3-0. At the time, the Wildcats were ranked 18th in the state, while the Eagles were 66th.

McGregor Hall of American Leadership Academy ran for the longest rushing play in 2A - North this season against North Summit last week. Hall's team fell to the Braves as he sprinted for 80 yards on the play and finished with 88 in all.

Millard's offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Skyler Cranney threw for 93 and 1 touchdown and Kyler Rowley had 55 yards receiving. On the ground Austin Wardle chipped in 95 yards. Dayton Komarek helped Millard's passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 23 yards.

The Eagles' dynamic duo of Cranney and Rowley proved tough for Gunnison Valley to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Komarek helped Millard's passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 23 yards.

Jeffrey Robison made the biggest impact on defense this week as Millard topped the Bulldogs. He pulled down 2 interceptions.

Gunnison Valley's Tyson Moosman and Jacob Hatch have formed a dream team this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. 6-1 quarterback Moosman has thrown for 1,078 yards this season, while Hatch has 44 catches for 819 yards. American Leadership Academy's Lincoln Henderson leads the league in rushing yards with 779.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when South Summit takes on North Summit. As it stands, Jerry Parker's team is in first, while Devin Smith's team is in third.

Adding to the longest winning streak in 2A - North this week, Layton Christian Academy beat the Wildcats 3-0. The victory was the sixth in a row for Doyle Holt's team.
