Basketball Recap: Caeden Herrera Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat the Classical Academy

There's no place like home for Pueblo South, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Monday. They had just enough and edged out The Classical Academy Titans 61-59. The Colts have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Titans on Thursday, too.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Pueblo South to victory, but perhaps none more so than Caeden Herrera, who dropped a double-double with 12 points and 15 rebounds. Herrera also grabbed three steals, which is notable because Pueblo South is undefeated when he posts at least three steals, but 7-13 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Sergio Salazar, who posted 13 points and three steals.

The Classical Academy's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ben Mullenix, who went 7-for-13 to rack up 16 points. Burk Dorny was another key player, going 7-for-10 en route to 15 points.

Pueblo South's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-13. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.3 points over those games. As for The Classical Academy, their defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 17-4.

Pueblo South does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for The Classical Academy, they will host Berthoud at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
