Football Game Preview: University Christian Christians vs. Key West Conchs

Two dominant backs in Donovan Moss and Walson Morin are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The University Christian Christians will challenge the Key West Conchs at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

University Christian barely beat Providence School the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Christians breezed past the Stallions to the tune of 34-7 on Friday. The Christians might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matchups by 26 points or more this season.

Jon Asbey had a dynamite game, rushing for 117 yards and three touchdowns on only nine carries.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Key West). They claimed a resounding 54-6 win over Jackson. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Conchs' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Florida football rankings (they are ranked 174th, while the Generals are ranked 457th).

University Christian better keep an eye on Jeff Dejean. He was instrumental in Key West's win, rushing for 93 yards and three scores on only five carries. Those three rushing touchdowns gave Dejean a new career-high. Another back making a difference was Leandro Batista, who rushed for 55 yards and one TD.

Key West pushed their record up to 6-3 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 35.6 points over those games. As for University Christian, their record now sits at 6-3.

Everything went University Christian's way against Key West in their previous matchup back in September of 2023, as University Christian made off with a 41-17 victory. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Morin, who rushed for 131 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only 12 carries. Now that he's got a second chance to win this matchup, will the Christians still be able to contain Morin? There's only one way to find out.
