Basketball Game Preview: Lakewood Spartans vs. Bloomingdale Bulls

Lakewood is on a eight-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Bloomingdale is on a 15-game streak of away wins (also dating back to last season): one of those streaks is about to end. The Lakewood Spartans will welcome the Bloomingdale Bulls at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Lakewood is headed into the matchup after thoroughly thrashing Plant: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Lakewood blew Plant out of the water with a 63-18 final score. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 41-12.

Lakewood had a senior duo take command as Sumayah McIntosh went 8 of 13 on her way to 19 points and eight steals and Alahni Lovett went 6 of 13 on her way to 20 points and six assists. With that strong performance, Lovett is now averaging an impressive 15.1 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Mikayla Paschal, who posted six points.

Lakewood smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive boards in four consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, everything came up roses for Bloomingdale against Plant City on Tuesday as the squad secured a 75-17 victory. Given the Bulls' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 12th, while the Raiders are ranked 464th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Lakewood is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 6-4 record this season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 64.7 points. As for Bloomingdale, their win bumped their record up to 11-0.
