Softball Game Preview: Kenwood Knights vs. Henry County Patriots

Kenwood hasn't had much luck against Henry County recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Knights will welcome the Patriots at 4:00 p.m. Kenwood has given up an average of 16.1 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Kenwood is headed into Wednesday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 22nd straight game dating back to last season on Tuesday. They lost 15-4 to West Creek.

Meanwhile, Henry County entered their tilt with Stewarts Creek last Saturday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. They were the clear victors by an 8-1 margin over the Red Hawks. The result was nothing new for the Patriots, who have now won three contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Irelynn Beecham was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Beecham was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-2. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (two).

In other batting news, Layne Latimer was incredible, going 1-for-2 with one home run and four RBI. Breely Peirpoint was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-2.

Henry County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .529. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Henry County pushed their record up to 6-2 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.5 runs on average over those games. As for Kenwood, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-10.

Kenwood suffered a grim 19-0 defeat to Henry County when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Knights avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
