Baseball Recap: Economedes Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

Economedes came into Tuesday's matchup having lost eight straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They never let the Edinburg North Cougars get on the board and left with a 10-0 victory on Tuesday. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Gilbert Rodriguez made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over five innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Economedes is 4-2 when he allows at most three earned runs, but 1-11 otherwise. Rodriguez was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-2. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in February.

In other batting news, Economedes let Alexander Garcia and Jose Perez run wild. Garcia scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2, while Perez scored a run while going 1-for-2. The dominant performance also gave Perez a new career-high in RBI (three). Josiah Villareal was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.

Economedes always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .577. They are 2-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Economedes' win bumped their record up to 5-13. As for Edinburg North, they dropped their record down to 2-17 with the defeat, which was their 14th straight on the road dating back to last season.
